-Backgrounder-
Gerald B. DiPietro, TOURCO President

Gerald (“Jerry”) DiPietro had dedicated his entire professional career to the hospitality and tourism industries.

Educated at Cornell University’s College of Engineering and subsequently graduating from Northeastern University, DiPietro spent a decade in the hotel industry with Sonesta and Dunfey/Omni hotels. From his introduction to hotel sales at New York’s Plaza Hotel, his hotel career encompassed a variety of experience, from general manager to national sales manager.

In 1979, he purchased a summer home on Cape Cod and, within one year he had formed TOURCO. Initially christened Cape Cod Tour & Conference Associates, the firm’s primary line of business was Cape Cod destination tours.

DiPietro’s successful Cape Cod tour and New England guided services led to increased demand for fully packaged New England tour programs. Upon introducing such programs, the firm changed its name to TOURCO, a name more reflective of the expanded product line.

Today, TOURCO celebrates 20 years of industry leadership and maintains a headquarter office in Hyannis, Cape Cod and branch offices in Boston, MA, New York City and Washington, DC. TOURCO’s geographic repertoire includes offerings throughout New England, New York, the Mid Atlantic and Southern US and Eastern and Maritime Canada. Throughout these regions, TOURCO offers a full spectrum of FIT and group products, representing more than properties.

Jerry has been an active volunteer and, throughout his career, has chaired nearly every National Tour Association (NTA) committee, from Government Relations, Membership and the Tour Supplier Council, to the presidency of the NTA Marketing Foundation. In 1987, he was appointed NTA’s representative to the Congressional Travel & Tourism Caucus Advisory Board. In 1994, he served as chairman of NTA’s Consumer Protection Plan and, in 1995, was appointed president of NTA. He is currently a director of the Travel Industry Association of America and sits on Best Western’s International’s International Marketing Advisory Board.

Active in his own community as well, Jerry has lectured on travel & tourism at Cape Cod Community College, has served as president of New England USA and sat on the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism International Task Force.

Jerry is married to the former Marian S. Romanelli. The DiPietros live in Falmouth, Cape Cod and have five children.
