Vice President & Treasurer, Michael
Patrick Destinations & Communications
DeSousa brought 15 years' experience in
banking, finance and grant writing to his current eleven-year
career in destination and tourism marketing and public relations.
DeSousa was born in New York City and
later moved with his family to Huntington, Long Island. After
earning a Regents Diploma and a scholarship from the Steuben
Society of America, he attended the State University of
New York in Oneonta where he earned a baccalaureate degree
in Clinical Psychology in 1972. He trained as a fellow at the
prestigious South Oaks Hospital in Amityville, NY, and
concurrently earned a Master of Clinical Psychology degree from
State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1974, where
he continued postgraduate study in mental health in a doctoral
program.
In 1974, he joined Meadowbrook National
Bank (now National Westminster Bank) and continued,
for the next 14 years, to advance in the financial services industry
until 1988, when he attained the vice presidency of mortgage
banking at Northeast Savings of Hartford, Connecticut.
In 1988, DeSousa left the financial industry
to join Glenn Faria in the genesis of a tourism marketing and
public relations firm and subsequently became a principal of
Michael Patrick Destinations & Communications. Since
1988, he has been very active in the tourism arena, particularly
in New England. He was an officer of the management group which
oversaw New England USA and was financial manager of Discover
New England for nearly five years, managing every nuance
of these public-private partnerships including grant writing,
reporting, cash management, budgeting and financial management.
DeSousa's sense of adventure and love
for both travel and his adopted home, New England, naturally
led him to a career which would be centered around travel and
tourism. His expressive, anecdotal writing style is used extensively
in writing both industry articles and essays and feature stories
for the firm's publications and in the preparation of the firm's
clients' press materials. His travel feature stories have been
published in a number of travel publications, including Cape
Cod Travel Guide, New England Travellers' Guide and
The Boston Herald.
DeSousa is bilingual (English and German)
and lives in the village of Osterville on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. |
